Narrated humbly by his father Joseph, the account begins with A.J.'s birth, details his youth in the Pennsylvania coal region, and continues through his life-defining military service. Through anecdotes, personal letters, and interviews, we witness an adventurous teen's transformation into a soldier and an American hero.

This book could have been written by the father of any soldier lost in war, but I am honored to tell you, that it was written by my neighbor and friend, Joe Baddick. I picked up this book and couldn't stop reading it. It is like "an evening with Joe Baddick." This man and his wife, Sheila, are the "real deal." I was privileged to know A.J. briefly. He was a hero in having the courage to become who he had worked and dreamed to be - an officer in the 82nd Airborne, serving his country, serving his fellow man, saving the life of another, sacrificing all to that end. But another hero in the story is his father, Joseph, who has had the courage to press on, walking closer to his God and helping others through their losses. Joe's enduring faith is a testimony to us all. This book is written from his heart and he teaches us that from great pain can come great Blessing.God Bless you Joe Baddick, Sgt. A.J. Baddick and God Bless America!

My Hero My Son Joseph Baddick 9781439267288 Books Reviews
Joe Baddick's book serves as a lasting tribute to the heroism of his son, Sergeant A. J. Baddick, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Just as important, this book provides a very personal account of what thousands of parents who have lost sons or daughters during war have endured when unimaginable tragedy has struck their families. This book should be read by every parent in America to fully appreciate the military service and sacrifice of today's generation, who serve and protect our country. Young men like Sergeant Baddick represent the finest of American society and are cut from the same cloth as the World War II generation. America is blessed to have such brave young men. Sergeant Baddick laid down his life for his comrades, which represents the greatest act of love for his fellow man.
I met Joe at the World War II Weekend at Reading, Pennsylvania in 2005. I was struck by his stoic and courageous bearing, much like many of the other airborne veterans I have known. Joe has written a truly outstanding narrative that flows well and is very compelling. Joe was kind enough to provide me with a copy of the report of the action in which his son was killed. It included witness statements, aerial photos, and other information surrounding Sergeant Baddick's heroic actions. Every word in Joe's book regarding his son's actions and death are taken from the report, and are 100% accurate.
This book is a must read for those who want to understand the military service and sacrifices of today's youth and how the parents of those killed deal with the loss of their sons and daughters.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I couldn't put it down, I read it in four days. I am from Northeast Pennsylvania and enjoyed reading about the heritage from back in the day. This book was so full of love and pride. Not only for the author's heroic son, but for family and country. It reminds you to have a gratefulness for this thing we call life.
First book I've read since Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm.
I enjoyed it very much, being a former 82nd Paratrooper and meeting Joe Baddick it was a very emotional ride!
After reading your book, I would like to thank you for sharing yourself and AJ with the world. I was overwhelmed that in less than 200 pages you were able to open yourself up and share your love of your family, your love for your children, your love of God and your love for your country. I admire your courage in writing this outstanding book as it serves as a reminder to all Americans that freedom does not come cheap.
wonderful story about a son and his father during war time outside are borders, what a great HERO! this young man is.
SGT Baddick will forever be a true hero! His selfless sacrifice that helped save the life of a soldier, while also attempting to save a second soldier. This is what honor and brotherhood is about!
All The Way, AIRBORNE
Joe has done an amazing job writing and putting together this fantastic book. Not only providing the details of his son's inspiring heroism, he also gives an often amusing account of what life was like growing up in the anthracite coal regions of eastern Pennsylvania. SGT A J Baddick will always be remembered for his astounding bravery that evening in Iraq in 2003, but Joe has done us all a big favor by sharing A J's many letters home to his family, allowing us to hear, in his own words, this young man whom anyone would be proud to call his son. Airborne, All The Way!
